COURSE DESCRIPTION:
PHE 130H. Weight Management. Credit Hours: (2) Weight control through exercise and nutrition. Apply principles of nutrition, intuitive eating, cardiorespiratory training and muscular strength/endurance training.
One lecture; Two lab.
COURSE CONTENT:
1. Basic nutrition
2. Eating behaviors
a. Cues that trigger eating
b. Strategies for changing eating habits
c. Energy/caloric balance
3. Exercise
a. Cardiorespiratory training
b. Muscular strength/endurance training
c. Flexibility training
4. Lifestyle behaviors and stressors
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Use food/nutrition labels to identify portion sizes.
2. Identify and modify triggers that cause inappropriate eating.
3. Plan strategies for changing eating habits.
4. List alternative responses to stressful life events.
5. Use cardio and weight training techniques to maintain/improve weight gain or loss.
